Lost Films Poster Art Show returns

We are very excited to announce our Lost Films Poster Art Show is back for a 2nd year!

If you missed last year’s event, we asked local designers to create movie posters for real films which were never completed, some abandoned during production, some written but never filmed, others little more than ideas… Last year’s posters included Stanley Kubrick’s Napoleon, a Confederacy of Dunces movie starring John Belushi and Richard Pryor, and Jodorowsky’s Dune.

“It’s amazing that you’re honoring filmmakers with these posters. Their films may not have been made but you are honoring all their hard work. You’re shining a light on these unproduced gems and making them immortal.”

— Stephen Scarlata, producer of Jodorowsky’s Dune

Each poster be featured in a display which details the history of the lost film behind it. A limited run of just 20 prints of each poster will be for sale for $35 each, with proceeds going to the artists and the nonprofit Des Moines Film Society.

This year’s Opening Night will be June 20 from 5-7:30pm at the University of Iowa Pappajohn Education Center, 1200 Grand Ave. Light apps and a cash bar will be provided by our partner, University of Iowa Atrium.

If you’re a designer interested in creating a poster for the show, e-mail ben@desmoinesfilm.org by June 3 with a link to some work from your portfolio.
